Covid-19

In an effort to minimize the spread of Covid-19, Arkansas Lighthouse Charter Schools continue to follow the guidelines of CDC and the Arkansas Department of Health. We will continue to screen and monitor scholars daily.

While COVID-19 does not cause illness in every person who becomes infected, it is highly contagious. Therefore, it is important to be alert to possible signs of Covid-19. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has identified the most common symptoms reported in positive Covid-19 individuals. Below are the CDC symptoms your student my exhibited that suggest further evaluation for COVID 19. It is imperative for parent/guardians to conduct home screening of the following symptoms each morning prior to sending scholar on campus.

There have been no layoffs at our schools. All ARLCS staff are here to support our students and their families during this crisis.

My child receives support services (Special Education, English Language Learner services, speech therapy and/or counseling services). Will these continue during distance learning?
Lighthouse Academies is participating in the eLearning Day Program which means that services for students with an IEP/ILP or 504 will still receive accommodations as needed, as well as individualized tasks. The special education teacher and paraprofessionals will be available to support students during school hours. If an eLearning Day occurs on a day in which your student receives a related service, those minutes will be compensated or services will be provided in the form of online materials, paper pencil tasks, home programming or telephone calls.

For additional questions regarding support services, please contact your school’s DSS. Links to contact information are provided below.

Will the online instruction count towards grades?
Yes. Students need to make sure they are doing their work each week. While we will work with families to ensure students have access to online materials, attendance, and grades during this time, grades will be reflected on student report cards and will be used to make promotional decisions. Students will also continue to have access to services like ESL, Intervention, and Special Education that they had in the classroom setting.

Is graduation going to be affected?
Scholars will still be able to receive their diplomas this year, provided they continue to complete their coursework and their grades and credits meet the requirements in the Scholar and Family Handbook.

We are not yet certain whether end of year celebrations including the graduation ceremony and events will be affected by the pandemic. Our priority will be to keep our scholars and families safe, and we will work with local officials to ensure that our celebrations fall within the guidelines for group gatherings.

Does my scholar have work every week?
Yes! Scholars have work that is assigned to them each week. Please contact your child's teacher for more details.

Will the work be graded and recorded in the gradebook?
All work during this distance learning period counts and promotional decisions will be made by the work the scholar does during this time. We are committed to helping students be successful in this new learning environment and will work with families to ensure access, but all distance-learning work counts and promotional decisions will be made by the work the scholar does during this time.

What if my scholar needs help?
Teachers will monitor scholar performance and will reach out to families on a weekly basis. In addition, if your scholar needs help please email the teacher directly.
