[Jacksonville, AR] — Scholars from FFA and Jr. MANRRS at Jacksonville Lighthouse Charter School recently demonstrated leadership and service by volunteering at the Arkansas Food Bank, where they helped address food insecurity across the state through hands-on community service.

During the volunteer event, scholars worked collaboratively to bag 3,500 pounds of pinto beans and donated 647 pounds of non-perishable food items, contributing to food distribution efforts that support families and individuals in need throughout Arkansas.

This service opportunity allowed scholars to see firsthand how agriculture, teamwork, and community partnerships play a critical role in strengthening food systems and improving food access. By participating in this effort, scholars gained a deeper understanding of food insecurity while making a tangible impact in their community.

“Service learning experiences like this empower our scholars to become leaders who understand the importance of giving back,” said Herrin, JR MANRRS Advisor. “Our FFA and Jr. MANRRS scholars didn’t just talk about making a difference — they showed up and did the work.”

“We are incredibly proud of our scholars for using their knowledge and compassion to serve others,” said CEO and Superintendent, LaShawnDa Noel. “Experiences like this shape not only strong students, but strong citizens who recognize their responsibility to support their communities.”

FFA and Jr. MANRRS programs emphasize leadership development, agricultural education, and service. Through opportunities like volunteering at the Arkansas Food Bank, scholars apply classroom learning to real-world challenges while developing a lifelong commitment to community service.
