JR MANRRS member Evie Herrin had the opportunity to hear Dr. Temple Grandin, Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University lecture at Southside, Bee Branch, AR. She was able to meet her, get a signed copy of one of her books, and be inspired! She learned this girl who loved cows embraced autism and changed the world of agriculture.
“Horses were really important for my mental health when I was a teenager getting bullied. Growing up as an autistic kid, all the bullies came after me, and the only places I was not bullied, were friends through the shared interest in riding horses. I would definitely encourage people to get out and do things with horses.” Dr. Temple Grandin
Dr. Temple Grandin is a Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University. Dr. Grandin has been instrumental in implementing animal welfare auditing programs used by Mcdonald's, Wendy’s, Whole Foods, and other corporations. A large population of the world’s livestock are housed and cared for in facilities designed by her.
Temple has been named one of the 100 Most Influential people in the world by TIME Magazine, is an author of multiple books on the New York Times Bestseller list, and has been featured on television shows such as 20/20, Larry King Live, and Prime Time. Additionally, HBO made a movie, “Temple Grandin,” based on Temple’s life featuring actress Claire Danes. Temple was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 2017 and in 2022 was named a Colorado State University Distinguished Professor.
