We are honored to host our 2nd Annual Engaging Conversations.
As we honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis, we will focus on the importance of public service through advocacy.
Meet Engaging Conversation Panelist Tamara L. Bates.
Ms. Bates is a captivating community voice who speaks out on social responsibility and equity across the United States' southern region. She is an organizer at heart who is not shy when addressing social justice issues and flawed policies that impact everyday people.
Bates is a proud graduate of Philander Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. An organizer with a love for community development, Bates has worked in politics on the local, state, and federal levels. In 2016, she contributed to the outreach efforts to support the Democratic Party of Florida's data-driven and metrics-based program to mobilize voters. Also, she served as Co-Director for Woke Vote during the historic Senate runoff victory election in Georgia. After a successful election in Georgia, Bates moved home to work for the Tennessee Democratic Party, as Director of Community Engagement.
Bates is currently a graduate student at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is a proud member of one of the nation's leading women's organizations, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Bates is known for being in the intersection of social justice and bold in her choice of fashion.

Mr. Wendell Scales, Deputy Director of Innovation is doing one of the many things he does best… representing Arkansas Lighthouse! He’s at the YASS Prize Awards ceremony in New York, NY preparing to bring home the BIG prize. He spoke to the audience about Apprenticeships and Skills-Based Models in Education, specifically highlighting Agri-STEM, a focus at ARLCS. Wish him luck!

Look who we caught making it happen!!!
We’re SPOTLIGHTING our very own Dr. Gabriel Jackson, Education Director at Pine Bluff Lighthouse.
Dr. Jackson was featured not once, but twice, as he presented and filmed professional development courses on PBS Arkansas IDEAS today. These two ethics courses on Social Media Influence and Professional Responsibilities are a part of a 12 course series for Arkansas Novice Educator Induction Program. A program sponsored by Arkansas PBS and the Arkansas Department of Education.
We see you Dr. Jackson! Keep SHINING your LIGHT!
